My buddy Liem called and told me that he had a new rifle. It was a KelTec SU-16, in 5.56 caliber. We decided to take it to the range today and see how it ran.
Here it is.
It is a 5.56 caliber carbine that is semi-automatic. It has a standard bolt opening knob on the right side of the receiver.
It comes with 3 10 round magazines and has a place in the stock to store 2 of them.
It will also take standard AR-15 magazines, both the 20 round mags.
And the 30 round mags.
It has a standard front post sight.
And an aperture rear sight.
It also has a rail to allow mounting of an electronic sight or a scope.
The fore end is in two parts and can be opened up to make a nice bi-pod.
The rifle is a piston design with the piston on top of the barrel.
The trigger and trigger guard is all plastic which helps keep the weight of the carbine down.
The safety is located right behind the trigger guard and is easy to manipulate.
Here I am running a magazine of IMI ammo through it.
And here is the 8 shot group at 50 yards. It shoots right to point of aim and shoots accurately.
Here is Liem running the rifle.
My son Abel tried his luck with the rifle.
Notice the size of the fireball shooting Wolf ammunition. (It took a lot of shots to catch this fireball, as it is very quick. You almost don’t see it.)
I tried it with the bi-pod down and it shot well. However, on the cement bench, the recoil made the bi-pod “dance” on the bench and it moved around a lot.
Liem tried it by holding the bi-pod with his left hand and that steadied up the rifle a lot.
We also ran the rifle on our hind legs and it was easy to shoot and make hits like that.
If you are interested in such a nice light-weight rifle, they can be found but it takes a little looking.
A great day, because it is fun to shoot stuff.
